Helping Us Help You

We’ve all done it.

Submitted a support ticket with “It’s not working” and hoped the solution would be obvious.

The reality? The quality and speed of the support you receive often depends on the information included in the request. A few extra details can help your support team diagnose issues faster, recommend better solutions, and reduce the back-and-forth that slows everyone down.

The more context our support team has, the faster we can understand your situation, identify the right solution, and help you get back to work. Whether you’re trying to learn how to do something, exploring new functionality, or troubleshooting an unexpected issue, a few simple habits can help you get the most value from your support request.

Learning How to Do Something or Exploring a New Feature? Start with the End Goal

“How do I…” questions are some of the most common requests we receive. To get the best answer, it’s helpful to explain not only what you’re trying to do, but also what you’re ultimately hoping to accomplish.

For example, asking how to print a report may lead to one solution. Explaining that you need information for an audit or compliance review could lead to a completely different recommendation that better meets your needs.

When submitting a request, consider including:

  • What you’re trying to accomplish
  • Why you need the information
  • Any reporting or compliance requirements involved
  • What you’ve already tried

Understanding your desired outcome helps us provide guidance that’s tailored to your actual business need rather than just answering the surface-level question.

The same applies when your’re evaluating a new feature. Tell is the business problem your’re trying to solve, and we can point you to the tool or workflow most likely to get you there, which may not be the one you first had in mind.

When Something Isn’t Working as Expected

Troubleshooting is often a process of narrowing down possibilities. The more information you can provide upfront, the faster we can identify what’s happening and begin working toward a resolution.

Helpful details include:

  • Does the issue affect all users or only certain users?
  • Does it occur in all companies or just one?
  • Does it happen every time or only occasionally?
  • Has anything recently changed in the environment?
  • Does the issue occur on multiple workstations or devices?

These answers help eliminate variables and reduce the time it takes to identify the root cause.

Screenshots Can Speed Up Resolution

If there is one thing that consistently helps us troubleshoot faster, it’s a screenshot.

Whenever possible, include:

  • The exact error message
  • A screenshot of the error or screen
  • The steps you were performing before the issue occurred
  • What you expected to happen versus what actually happened
TIP: the built-in Windows Snipping Tool makes capturing an error quick. Pin to your taskbar for easy access.

A screenshot often provides critical clues that may not be obvious from a written description alone. When errors aren’t documented and can’t be recreated, troubleshooting becomes significantly more difficult.

Don’t Forget About Self-Service Resources

Many questions can be answered quickly through the resources available to our customers.

If you’re looking for guidance, troubleshooting help, or answers to common questions, be sure to visit our:

  • Customer Resource Center
  • User Guides and Training Resources
  • Educational Webinars and Customer Events

These tools can often help you find answers immediately and may provide additional best practices you can use in your day-to-day operations. Customers often tell us that clear, detailed educational resources help their teams get even more value from their software investment.
