KB02-019
The first line of defense for preventing a hacker from getting personal information is to ensure the hackers don’t get your email password. It is easier for them to get the password than it would be to decode an encrypted file. We recommend the email account password be at least 8 characters with lowercase, uppercase and numbers. This will make it difficult for a hacker to get into your personal email account. Once they get into the personal email account, they would then have to decode the PDF file that is also password protected. Adobe Acrobat uses 128-bit encryption.
Another thing to consider is making the earnings statement a little more secure as well: the most sensitive information on the earnings statement is the bank account number and the social security number. You can edit your earnings statement in Report Writer to mask part or all of these fields. Here is a link to a Microsoft article on how to mask these fields: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935619.
